Your nose is the most prominent part of your face - obviously.
You can't really do much to affect its appearance, especially if you can't or won't grow a mustache.
Small wonder many people are so self-conscious and critical of their noses. They're afraid their noses are too big, too prominent or too curved.
While most people probably put more importance on their own noses than other people do, it's also true that a nose that's off-kilter can make your entire face appear out of balance. So some noses can make us believe those people aren't as attractive.
Small wonder a nose job - rhinoplasty - is one of the most common and popular forms of plastic surgery around the world.
But many people don't want, or can't afford, plastic surgery. Cosmetic procedures are rarely covered by medical insurance.
Therefore, many look online for a nonsurgical solution.
Can you alter your nose's shape, size and appearance using techniques found through Google?
Where There's a Consumer Need, Someone will Find a Solution to Sell You, Even If It Doesn't Work
In the health and selfcare fields, that often means the so-called 'solution' is fake.
Sadly, that's particularly true of altering your nose's shape or size without surgery. There is a way, but it still involves medical techniques and paying professionals.
Your Nose's External Anatomy
Your nose consists only of two nasal bones, cartilage and the tissue/skin covering them.
For the most part, your nose's shape is governed by genetics. That is, it comes from your ancestors and, in a general way, their ethnic and racial composition.
It should go without saying, but there are NO "good" or "bad" or even "beautiful" or "ugly" noses.
As long as you can breathe in and out without obstruction, your nose is "good." It's doing what it's supposed to.
Whether it's too big or too small or too whatever, is a purely subjective opinion.
Of course, you can argue all standards of beauty are subjective - quite true - but you believe your friends and potential partners would prefer you with a differently shaped nose. You may be right.
You may also come to realize - after the fact - they don't like or love you any more after a nose job than they did before.
Age Does Change Your Nose's Appearance
As we grow older, the structures of our noses can change shape due to weakness and general loss of skin and tissue tone and strength.
With time, your nose may appear swollen, too large or too long or simply too prominent. The tip of your nose may look bulbous, undefined or saggy.
When the rest of your face starts slipping downward, your nose usually goes along.
Trauma and Surgery May Also Damage Your Nose
Trauma refers to any injury affecting your nose. That could be someone punching you there. That can make your nose appear crooked, bent or slanted. It can result in indentations.
Nose surgery can weaken the bones and the cartilage. This too can result in indentations.
Excessive alcohol intake can damage your nose. We've all known people with red, swollen bulbous noses because they drink so much the veins and capillaries in their nose are broken. The old school comedian W. C. Fields was famous for his nose.
Sustained snorting of cocaine powder can damage your nasal septum, the cartilage separating your nostrils, and surrounding tissues.
Further use of cocaine can lead to chronic runny nose, chronic nasal congestion and deformities in structure. Your nose's bridge can collapse - a saddle nose deformity.
Fight Gravity
Your nose doesn't respond to exercise because exercise is for muscle tissue - NOT bone and cartilage.
Therefore, don't put any faith in or spend your good money on:
* Nose yoga
* Nose exercises
* Nose reshaping tools
* Nose discs
* Nasal bone remodeling oil
* Nose clips
Instead, look into ways to keep your entire face lifted.
Our faces look different with age because they're resting on a complex set of fat "pads" on top of your facial muscles. As time goes by, these pads of fat shrink along with the underlying muscles, making our faces look more narrow or pinched - certainly less youthful.
If your nose appears to be drooping, so is everything else.
Try Exercises for Your Facial Muscles
Sample: Blow into a real or pretend (the effort is the important part) balloon. Blow hard for at least fifteen seconds. Hold for as long as you can. Repeat at least five times.
Beware Nose Reshaping Devices
These are simply mechanical tools or gadgets people place into their noses. Some go on the inside, some on the outside. They all exert physical stress or pressure on some part of your nose.
Unfortunately, they can permanently damage your nose instead of making it more beautiful.
The sellers of these device claim they will force your nose to alter its shape in response to this physical manipulation.
While the device is in place, it may indeed make your nose look straighter or narrower. However, that's simply a result of the device, and it's temporary.
Manufacturers claim the external clamps alter the shape of your cartilage over the course of several weeks, but there's no scientific evidence for this.
Risks of Nose Reshaping Devices
1. They place unnecessary pressure on nasal passages.
2. They can obstruct your airways. Always remember your nose has an important function to perform. If you don't breathe, you'll die.
3. They can cause bruising and scarring.
The Only Nonsurgical Intervention that Works
That's nonsurgical rhinoplasty. A trained medical technician injects filler into your nose to resculpt it.
